Preventive Maintenance-Washing Machines

8/4/2017 (Permalink)

A washer machine was leaking on the second floor of this home in Dickson City.

Washing machine leaks are one of the most common causes of flood damage in a home, and can result in significant damage not only in the laundry room but also in adjacent rooms and areas.  The following precautionary steps can be taken in an attempt to prevent a leak:

 1) Replace rubber and plastic hoses with reinforced steel braided hose, check connections periodically to make sure all connections are secure and replace the hoses every five years, 2)  Turn off the water supply to the washing machine when you will be leaving the house for an extended  period of time, 3) Ask your plumber about replacing any screw-type water-supply valves with easier to operate “dual-ball valves, “ which are also easier to operate.

SERVPRO of Carbondale/Clarks Summit/Old Forge as an emergency response company has been called to many water disasters which were the result of a washer malfunction. If your home has a flood stemming from a washer machine call the Lackawanna County's leader in water damage mitigation.
